Denial

Love Seminar - Gavin Sharpe

Denial

What do we mean by denial?

In this context, denial can be a self-destructive way of protecting oneself from reality. Addicts have a tendency to justify, rationalise or minimise their addictive behaviours, to themselves and others. They may tell themselves “I don’t do it that often/I have to get my needs met/My partner doesn’t meet my sexual needs etc.”. Addicts often unconsciously lie to themselves as well as their loved ones to maintain their addiction. In this show, Gavin expands on how addicts manipulate their reality and provides the hope of how one can break through that denial with a trained professional.

Gavin appeared on Blog Talk Radio in the U.S. to discuss the role that denial plays in addiction, and specifically in sex addiction.
